It's been one of those weeks....

The one where everything snowballs, everything falls on you at once. The kind where you feel so completely and totally alone, even when you're surrounded by people.

It's a weird feeling to know what it is that will make you better, and not being able to do it. To get your hands on it. To fix it.

No amount of words or comfort or silence of any kind is able to stop my from slowly descending back into that dark hole. But I'm trying. I'm really trying to pull myself out of it.

But I can't stop the tears, the fear, the worry, the anger, the sadness.

It's like I'm watching from above and I know what to do but I can't do it.

One day at a time I suppose...

Liebster Award

A little while back Beth nominated me for the Liebster award! Now, I've been nominated a few times so I figured I should probably get around to doing it. So here goes nothing, enjoy all the useless information about me you're just dying to know ;).

Eleven Facts
  1. I put Ketchup on almost everything. Including pancakes. DON'T JUDGE ME!
  2. I have a new obsession with the Duggar family. I'm just trying to understand them...
  3. I keep up with the Kardashians far more than is healthy. Kourtney is my queen.
  4. My nose piercing is currently infected as fuh. I had to take time to go to the doctor. All I wanted was some pretty face jewelry :(.
  5. I've played soccer since I was 12. It's my favorite way to stay active!
  6. I'm a super awkward person. And we're not talking Zooey Deschanel awkward. Like... "don't know how to behave in social situations, what the hell is wrong with you" awkward. Whoops.
  7. I read about a book a week. I can never get enough. ALL THE BOOKS!
  8. I have a bit of a gypsy soul. I can never stay settled for very long and if I had it my way I'd live in a different city every single year.
  9. My sense of humor is very similar to my father's. I find things like Airplane and Monty Python slap your knee hilarious. When Jay and I watched Clue, I was wheezy laughing (which is also how my father laughs so thanks dad), and he didn't find it funny at all. But he clearly doesn't know what's good because Nigel Thornberry in that movie was priceless.
  10. I'm obsessed with films. I consider myself an amateur film critic. If I could, I would make my livelihood in movies. I'm not talking acting in a movie, I'm talking working on them and having my name in the credits. The amount of movies I watch is borderline ridiculous.
  11. I use the term "borderline ridiculous" a borderline ridiculous amount.

My Eleven Questions
  1. What inspires you in your blogging conquests?
All of the other lady bloggers out there. When I get pretty comments from pretty bloggers it makes me want to come back day in and day out! The support of this whole community inspires me to explore every angle.
  2. What are your guilty pleasures?
Candy Crush. Oh god is it ever. I play it every spare moment I have it's quite embarrassing.
  3. What is your favorite pumpkin pleasure?
Pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin spice anything...
  4. Who is your favorite blogger?
Well this is just unfair. I can't answer this! I have so many that I love. Nope, not doing this one.
  5. What is your favorite season of the year?
Autumn. More than anything in the world I love Autumn. The smell, the beauty, the activities. ALL OF IT.
  6. Cats or dogs?
Dogs. Cats are useless. USELESS. They have such an attitude and they make me sneeze.
  7. What inspired your blog design?
I just wanted something simple and modern. Plus I love black, white and gray.
  8. Favorite Disney movie?
Beauty & The Beast. Always and forever. I used to watch it every week. How ridiculous is that? I almost wore out the VHS tape. Belle just made me feel better about being such a book nerd.
  9. How to win your heart?
Tacos. Burritos. Mexican food in general. And tell me I'm pretty. While presenting me with food. So ultimately food. Food is the way to my heart.
  10. If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
I really want to explore Northern Europe. I want to go to Sweden, Finland, Denmark and then fly over to Iceland. I want to so bad that it hurts.
  11. Coffee or tea?
This is like Sophie's Choice. I refuse. REFUSE!

I NOMINATE ALL OF YOU! And if you do it let me know so I can come creep on your answers. Answer the same ones posed to me okay? OKAY. Thanks.

Announcement & An Update

I haven't much been around these parts over the last week. As you can probably guess, starting my new job took high priority and I wasn't used to being so exhausted. By the time my bus got me home at the end of the day, I had little to no energy and mostly just laid on the couch or went and laid in my bed. I'm back though. I'm here to fill you in on what happened while I was gone.

  • Jay's work Christmas party happened and we took 100 selfies and this was the best we could do. We kind of suck. But my selfie was pretty good so I'll share it too.

  • I bought my first ever Christmas tree and I love it so much my heart hurts from happiness. I'll show you later this week when I put the finishing touches on it! I went for a red and gold theme because Gryffindor. Even though I identify as a Ravenclaw, blue and silver just isn't as Christmas-y to me. I wanted it to be warmer. So let's not be surprised if I get a Ravenclaw stocking to put underneath it.

  • My friends moved into their first house and we went to their housewarming and it just reminded me how much I love my friends. I just want to hug them all tightly and tell them how much ass they kick.

  • I started my new job (duh) and I love it so much. On my first day, Jay picked me up and took me to 295 York and we had the best meal of our entire lives. Winnipeg's best steak, 100% fact.

  • My nose piercing got infected. Ugh this is not what I signed up for.

  • I am almost done my Christmas shopping. I wanted nothing to do with malls in December so hopefully I'll finish of the last few this week!

  • I got in a screaming match with someone in the parking lot at my bank. He couldn't drive, speak English, or generally understand how to behave like a human being. Then he stood behind my car for no reason and two other people yelled at him. I was tempted to just run him over. Ugh... some people.

Oh but you're probably here for the announcement right? I was dragging it out to be a jerk. So without further ado I give you...

December 1 to December 5 will be another installment of Relationship Week. If you're not familiar with it, click here to read the previous weeks. This time, expect some surprises from some of my fave bloggers! At the end of the week, we will all be answering questions; so for the next week, ask anything related to dating, relationships and the like. The ladies I have lined up are super pumped for the blogger Q&A so don't hold back. We look forward to your questions!

I'm also involved in a few other things coming up in December so keep an eye out for that. December is the month of giving after all. Ahem... Anyway, hope you all have a wonderful last week of November.

Breakfast on the Go

1. Smoothies
Lets start simple with a good old smoothie. If you have a blender then you're halfway there. The other half is the ingredients and let's be real, it's not hard to prep that in advance. Personally I love anything fruity in the morning to get me going and then I throw some spinach in there to make it green. For tips on making a kick ass smoothie, check out Festive Health's Smoothie Guide

2. Yogurt, Granola & Berries

Sometimes a bowl of coconut Greek yogurt with a handful of frozen berries and granola is all this busy girl needs. Super easy and if I'm running out the door, I just throw it all in a thermos and spoon it out as I drive.

3. Omelette Muffins

These babies are my new obsession. SO simple to make and I just freeze what I don't need right away. You can literally put anything you want in them; peppers, sausage, bacon, onions, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, spices, the options are endless!

4. Peanut Butter Fruit Wraps

I found these on Pinterest a few months back and I'm genuinely stupefied I never thought of it myself. I can pre-make these the night before. Slap some peanut butter and bananas onto a wheat wrap and you're done. Sometimes I add berries on it as well for a little extra flavor. An easy grab and go for a rushed morning!

5. English Muffin Sandwiches

Hamilton Beach has literally just made my mornings 100 times easier. For one, I unfortunately have an obsession with McDonald's McMuffins. Not only are they super unhealthy, but they can get super expensive on the daily. Enter the at home mcmuffin. I can choose which type of English Muffin I use and then substitute soy cheese, egg whites and lean bacon to make this treat once in awhile. And it does all of it for me while I hop in the shower.

There you have my top 5 fave quick breakfasts. What is your go-to morning meal when you're in a rush?

Selective Amnesia

There's this really strange thing that happens in Winnipeg every year. I should expect it, but every November my mind is blown all the same. You see, we here in the wastelands of winter get a solid 5-6 months of snow. Every year. EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.

Would one not assume that the residents of a city as cold and dark as Winterfell would be used to this by now? As I left my apartment this morning to go to work, I got stuck dead in traffic. For over an hour. Because it started to snow today. Apparently, all of Winnipeg has been gripped by selective amnesia. It's strange, every year, 80% of drivers forget what this cold, slippery, white snow is. It has literally been LESS than six months since we last had to drive in it, yet over a short period of time, everyone has forgotten how.

I will never understand. And now I'm cranky because I spent over an hour in traffic when my commute generally takes less than 20 minutes. Seriously, there is maybe a half inch of snow on the ground, get your ish together other drivers, we do this every year....

I decided for #TBT I would go through Facebook from when I was in high school and share some of the pictures I find. I also want to point out that at the time I thought I was fat. FAT. SERIOUSLY MELISSA?! I wish I could go back in time (and 35 lbs ago) and slap myself across the face and say YOU'RE SO STUPID ENJOY YOUR BODY NOW.

This was the first time I saw the ocean. Ever. In my life. I was so excited, but it turns out the Atlantic Ocean is cold. Super cold.

This was the first time I'd ever seen a Newfie dog and was really excited and made this man stop so I could take a picture with his dog. Oh right, in Newfoundland.

This is me and Neil and I only post this in the hopes that Lauren sees this (because he doesn't have Facebook) and shows him because we were literally just talking about how we used to party at the wedding on Saturday when he was giving me shit for laying on the couch semi-unconscious. Sorry that my tolerance isn't what it used to be.. GAWD!

Lastly, I just like sharing this picture of my friend Andrew whenever possible. This was in his modeling days. Work it.

This concludes today's throwbacks.

Titles Are Hard

I stole this from Alyssa kind of. It's a "Currently" post but I decided to smush it into a "Life Lately/Currently" post. So thanks lady for providing me with today's idea. Oh also, go check her out cause I'm in love with her as of late.

|Life Lately|

I quit my job. I was going to wait to announce this, but now is as good a time as any I suppose. I got an offer that I just couldn't refuse and I took it. It was a big decision and I was a little torn up about it for a couple of days. It meant stepping outside of my comfort zone, making a big decision in a short period of time, and taking a huge leap of faith. Ultimately, it was too good of an opportunity to say no to. I'm so excited to see where my career goes from here.

I pierced my nose on Friday. I had been debating it for a few years and then I decided screw it I'm going to go for it. And let me tell you, I love it. My friend's coworker does it on the side so I paid $10 and she pierced it in her kitchen. Saving a dolla makes me holla.

I'm an expert. Not really, but my good friend does writes for Festive Health and I like to help him with his blog posts sometimes. This time it meant I was quoted about getting children to eat healthy. Because of all my experience raising children.

Arbonne is becoming my obsession. I have seriously never loved a brand more than I love this one. And guess what? I even got Tracey in on the action. I like to think it was my persuasion that convinced her to join this wonderful family!

Making // I'm making the most of the time I have left at my current job. I'm not going to lie, I'm really going to miss Marketing & Communications. I love that social media is half of my job. I'm not sure if I've ever really discussed my degree, but I double majored, and this new job will be utilizing that other half of my degree that I don't even use. This is why I needed to take a risk. I need to know what that other half looks like in the real world.

Anticipating // Going to the movies tonight. Jay and I are going to see Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal. If there's one thing I love more than Jake GFyllenhaal it's him playing a sociopath.

Learning // That I have picked a real winner ladies. Seriously. Jay slays me. This is what I opened up yesterday....

I was just at work minding my own business, and then he sends me this. Look, I never usually drink as much as I did at the wedding over the weekend. But he sees an opportunity and he zooms in on it. Then, I discover that his love of Taco Bell might actually exceed mine which I never thought possible. I log on to Facebook to see this...

And you know what? This bitch won a free t-shirt from posting this. He also bought that hat on E-Bay and wears it everywhere.

Plotting // My novel. Say what? Come again? Yes that's write. (See what I did there?) It's NaNoWriMo and dammit I'm going to participate!

Listening to // My latest Spotify obsession is the stylings of Daniela Andrade. She has some seriously amazing covers. This one caught me most recently, but her cover of "Latch" is also magical. This girl is gold.

Things I Learned This Weekend: Wedding Edition

1. Fireball is not my friend.

2. Open bar weddings defeat me.

3. Andrea's couch is more comfortable than my bed.

4. Bohemian Rhapsody is the best song to end a wedding with.

5. Thinking I can handle that one last drink was a bad idea.

6. Knowing the Backstreet's Back dance will garner lots of applause.

7. You should always have a GoPro on the dance floor.

8. Photobooths are underrated.

9. M&M's on the table is a genius move. Thank you Mike & Mel.

10. Buffets are the best option for weddings. I could have shoveled 8 more plates of potatoes into my cave-sized mouth. Again, thank you Mike & Mel.

11. Jay's giggle is infectious and I need to work on my kegels.

12. I have an allergy to mold and moldy pumpkins will set that off very heavily.

13. If you can't go out on Halloween, then turning off all the lights, lighting a million candles and watching the classics is a great way to spend it.

14. I still fit children's costumes and there was a freaking TACO COSTUME!

Now here's a photo dump of Mike & Mel's wedding.

(I don't remember giving my glasses to Curt...)

(i cut the top of this off on purpose because awful)

oh yeah, I caught the bouquet
