Something Wicked This Way Comes...

Can you feel it? Can you? The air is different. Life is different. I'm so excited. My favorite month is around the corner. It's almost October and that means I can officially start celebrating Halloween. If you were around these parts last year you probably remember how much I obsess. If you don't remember, maybe click here, here and here to be introduced.

This year, I'm going to be releasing an October Blogging Challenge! Look for that on Monday and feel free to join in all month long.

For now, I created a wicked playlist to get you ready for one seriously awesome month. Enjoy and have a happy weekend!

Be Careful

I had a different idea for what I wanted to write today but last night I changed my mind. Here's a little tip people. You can't unsay things. It's hard to repair the damage done by your words. Taking the one thing someone is most insecure about and throwing it in their face is hard to get over. Really hard.

Arbonne Has Changed My Life

Until very recently, I had no skincare routine. I knew my skin was awful but I had no idea where to start. It would go from dry, to acne ridden, to red and blotchy, back to dry. I didn't know what products to use or what my problems even were. The only thing I knew was that my skin was sensitive.

Enter Arbonne. Thanks to my friend Santanna, I've been introduced to the wonderful world of Arbonne. I went a little ham on purchasing but because I hosted a party I ended up getting $150 worth of products for $30 so how could I pass that up?

From there, everything just kind of led up to a moment of clarity for me. I wanted in. I wanted to share this company and share these products that literally changed my life. Before Arbonne, I never cared or thought about what went on my body. After I hosted my party I began checking labels on everything. I've become such a skeptic on any product that is listed as "natural". I just want to take care of myself and my body.

The world of Arbonne is a wonderful one. Already the girls have shown me such a sense of community and I know I've made the right choice. I'm really looking forward to this adventure!

**If you would like to learn more about the products or make a purchase please do not hesitate to contact me here!**

Folk My Life

There's been some really heavy stuff going on around me lately and it's getting me down. I might talk about it later this week. I'm just not in a mental space right now to put my thoughts into coherent sentences.

This is where my head is at right now. Some lovely Folk to make this Tuesday a little more tolerable. Or any day more tolerable for that matter. I'm all about the folk life lately.

For all my Canadian homies, I have a couple "Early Access" Spotify codes. I'll give them to the first people to ask cause I don't know what else to do with them! And if you haven't realized by now, Spotify is the absolute shiznit so you definitely want to jump on this bandwagon. Okay bye.

What did you do this weekend? Because I made an Instagram for my hedgehog. So yeah, it was that kind of weekend.

TFIF

TFIF. No that's not a typo. It stands for "Thank F**k It's Friday". That's how this week has gone kids. "But Melissa, you say that at the end of every week? Why don't you do something to change this pattern and make your weeks better!" If only it were that easy. Since the main reason for my cranky-ness and worst weeks on record is something I can't change overnight. LE SIGH. But trust me, I'm working on it...

Another reason I might be so cranky today is probably because of this:

Jay done messed up. And even though he said he "fell asleep" partway through I know he's lying and now I don't even want to watch it at all. I FEEL SO BETRAYED.

To get my mind off of how rude that was, and because it's Friday, let's just lay out some of my favorite things this week.

1) It was my friend Kristen's birthday this week and our friend Caitlin made her the world's best cake!

2) My baby cousin (who isn't a baby at all anymore) is down in Tennessee on a soccer scholarship and she scored her first career goal yesterday. I've never been more proud! I love my family so so so much <3.

3) I finished reading "Where'd You Go Bernadette" in about 1.5 days and it was amazing. You need to read it. Seriously! SO GOOD!

4) Halloween is a month and a half away but I started celebrating about 2 weeks ago. That's right. September 1. I have so many movies to get through and I've started collecting decorations for my apartment! This week I found the sickest candle at Target and it's my new favorite piece of decor. Makes me feel like a badass.
5) I have a new favorite playlist which doesn't bode well for my office. Because all I want to do is scream-sing at the top of my lungs. I figured I'd share the world's best playlist. YOU'RE WELCOME!

Also, just for the record, I sat here giggling for like 2 minutes because I can't see Kenny Loggins' name and not picture this:

God how  I love Archer. If you've never seen it youuuuuuu need to get on that. But that's all I have to say today. Linking up with Amanda of course!

So I was about to start writing when the grossest/weirdest thing just happened to me and I need to share. I was sitting at my desk and then all of a sudden I started coughing, and everything I had just drank came out my nose! Like.. what!? How does that even happen. So now my nose has PSL and water all up in it and no matter how many times I blow it's all I can smell and it's gross. The running theory is that my liquids went down the wrong pipe and I didn't notice and they just rushed back up. Like I said, GROSS.

**Update I just went to go try and get rid of the smell in my nose by rubbing some lemon on/in it and discovered I have a cut under my nose because OH MY GOD THE BURNING.

Moving on from the grossness that is my nostrils, I was reprimanded for not sharing a video from my Instagram on here. So below is what happens when you take two really bored roommates, their pet hedgehog, and probably just too much sugar. (Nope, wasn't drunk. Does that make this worse?) No wonder Reg hates us...

Another thing if you go to my Instagram that I hope you take the time to notice is how KICKBUTT my ombré is looking lately. Why is that you ask? Oh you know just a little help from my friends over at Garnier. (And maybe a filter or two on Insta.) But back to Garnier Fructis. I've always been a pretty big fan of the scents and it has never damaged my hair, but instead repaired it. But this might be the first time I've trusted them with my color. It brought back dat blond flow. No really though, I seriously recommend it if you can't afford to pay buckets o bills for the expensive color treated shampoos. Also, my hair is soft.

And while I will most likely go back to my all natural shampoo/conditioner when I'm done because I'm on that organic, all natural kick, I would still use this if I was in need. So moral of the story: give it a try!

Ignore how awkward this picture of me is and marvel at my ombré. Thanks Garnier!

Oh and on another note, ROLL TIDE!

*I received these products complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster.*

An Ode to the Man Bun

Once upon a time, the male population of Hollywood decided they wanted to start a new trend. The heaven's opened up and shined a beautiful light on them and gifted them with the man bun. Since then, they have been taking our lady bits hearts by storm. But really, can you please just look at how diverse and sexy these buns are?

Casual Orlando being casual. "Hey ladies, wanna touch my bun?"

Or dressed up Jared. Give this man another Oscar. Please. That half up half down look needs to be celebrated.

Don't leave out Thor. Seriously, he has the long flowing locks of a GOD. And they look even better pulled back.

Jason Momoa knows it's all about that "just walked out of the ocean and tied my hair back" look.

Then Jake took it one step further and paired the bun with the world's sexiest bushman beard. "Hey ladies, my hair may look dirty but that's not the dirtiest thing about me ;)."

Even Jon Snow jumped on this train. "I'm on a boat! (with my sexy hair tied up in a sexy bun)."

Moral of the story: man buns are in and we should all admire them and fantasize about them so I don't feel so alone. K thanks.

Be still my beating heart.

Another Weekend Update

The sign of a good weekend is no pictures to show for it because it means I was out enjoying it. However, that also makes me an incredibly awful blogger. Shame on me. I had a really fun weekend full of me actually leaving the apartment so high five to that.

But the main thing I came here this morning to tell you all is that Reggie has finally lost enough weight that he can clean himself! I'm actually this person now. The person who sits on the floor and watches her Hedgehog run around doing hedgie things and then screams with DELIGHT when he bends over his back to lick his quills. Because before he was so fat that he could barely turn his head. And now he's all sorts of flexible. And I think we all need to congratulate him on it.

He's also becoming a little less of a dick. Which leads me to believe he was cranky because he was obese. I mean it must be pretty uncomfortable to be so fat you have personal hygiene problems.

I will soon have some pictures to share of Reggie's back bending feats because Anna's mom came over last night with her camera and took a bajillion pictures of Reggie. Anna's mom loves Reggie more than life itself I think. She actually croons at him. It's hilarious but adorable but also makes me think she no longer comes over to see us and only comes over for Reg. But hey, he's cute so I can't complain.

And just like that my entire post has become about my Hedgehog. So sorry.

In other weekend news, I went out on Friday night and danced and it was great but it was also really tiring. As in I made Caitlin go home at 12, like we were Cinderella or something. But I was tired, and I felt really old, and I was under dressed. I missed the crop top and stilettos memo. Apparently black tights and a cute tank top are a sign you've gotten old. Also, requesting "Yeah" by Usher is also a sign that you're old. Also also, Cailtin tweeted this and then that definitely made us old. We've started complaining about youths.

Saturday was a day spent with Jay. Doing hoodrat things. Like going to Value Village and finding the most ridiculous mug to bring home to Anna. And making pumpkin brownies. (Well I made them, he kind of just stood in my way in the kitchen). And singing along at the top of our lungs to Big Shiny Tunes 6 on our way out to the country to a BBQ to celebrate Jenn & Kyle's upcoming nuptials. Oh, I also tricked him and told him it was a BBQ but it was actually a Jack & Jill shower. SURPRISE! #worstgfever

Lastly, I'm a horrible friend because I completely forgot to congratulate Brooke Snook on her engagement!!! I mean obviously I did it, just not on the blog, and if I don't do it on the blog I think that makes me a really bad friend? Or something?

Anyway, you've chosen well. Mostly based on this:

You do you Bradley. You do you.

I should probably go now. But I want to hear about your weekends! Tell meeeee.

k bye :)

Life Update

Even though I was up at 5 am this morning I am feeling very awake. I had to be up for work but I'm not even complaining because I had the opportunity to celebrate Ethiopian New Year for the first time. I was given coffee that I WATCHED THEM ROAST. It was the most delicious thing I've ever tasted. You can read about my experience this morning here.

In other news, I feel like I'm in such a good mood because it's autumn and I have waited all summer for this. It's no secret I hate the heat. So when the temperatures dropped below 20C I got quite excited. You can probably tell from my Pinterest that I am a lover of all things autumn, especially Halloween. AKA my favorite holiday of the year. YOU'RE WELCOME KAY.

Maybe yet another reason I'm so happy this morning is because I got to have a video chat date with Jessi last night! Cue the heart emoji 30 times in a row. I have missed that pretty little voice of hers. I get to see her face on Snapchat but rarely do I get to sit down and have an actual conversation! I was so pumped, I stayed up to talk to her even though my grandma body was screaming for bed at 9. Knowing I had to wake up at 5 sucked, but getting to chat with my lovely was worth it!

In Reggie news, the little jerk had a bit of, ahem, a digestive problem the last week or so and I had to give him an extra bath because of it and he was not cooperating. It's okay though cause he let me cuddle with him on the couch after so I guess it's not that bad. Except when he tried to burrow under my boob. That was uncomfortable.

Lastly, Jordan and I had a really uncomfortable yet hilarious experience the other day which I cannot share on this blog but trust me, it was horribly awful and yet funny all at once. Sorry to dangle that in front of you.

HAVE A GOOD DAY KIDS. I'm out.

Canadian Capital City

I'm back! It's only been a week but it feels like I haven't been around these parts in forever. In case some of you don't know, I was in Ottawa for most of last week/weekend for a work conference. And man is that city beautiful. I fell in love. Hard.

I crammed so much into my few short days in Canada's capital I don't even know how I'm not more exhausted. From Byward Market, to Mosaika, to Parliament to the War Museum, there was so much to see and do in between conference sessions and workshops.

My favorite thing was being able to spend time with friends. My friend Nic is studying law out there and I hadn't seen him since we graduated our undergrad together. It was so nice to catch up over drinks!

But I had another friend there. One you might recognize. That's right, I finally had a blate with Tracey!

Thanks to Twitter and the wonderful restaurants in Ottawa, we snagged a reservation at Play Food & Wine and oh my goodness the food did not disappoint.

As soon as I started chatting with Tracey, it was as if we'd known each other for years! She was such a sweetheart and so easy to talk to. I want to go back to Ottawa so I can spend more than 2 hours with her lovely face!

Now that I'm back, hopefully I'll check in more often. I have so much to tell you guys but it'll just have to wait until tomorrow, or the next day, or maybe the next day after that. I'm too tired to function right now. I have some exciting things going on in my life and I can't wait to share with you!

Until then, please enjoy the fact that my boys in Take Me To The Pilot finally released the video for their new single! Yes, that's right, now you can stare at their pretty faces some more. And also listen to a kick ass song. Show them some love. WATCH.

The Long Weekend That Wasn't

Back to the grind this week after a lovely long weekend. Except that I did nothing this weekend. I didn't go away, I didn't take a mini road trip, I didn't go out. I mean there was pretty much one main reason for this.

LUNA

The story is this:

I found a puppy at work on Friday, abandoned, cold, hungry, and dirty. I reported her missing and nobody has come froward. In fact the only information received was that multiple people saw her with a couple the night before who were trying to get rid of her. And then she was found wandering alone the next morning.

HOW COULD ANYONE DO THAT?! LOOK AT HER PRETTY LITTLE FACE.

Since I like animals more than people, I took her home. Anna wouldn't let me keep her because, small apartment and (soon to be) big dog. Poop. So I kept her until Saturday when I found her a home. And then I cried. Because yes, I was attached that fast. She was pretty much the perfect dog. Quiet, docile, cuddly, friendly, easily trained, almost no accidents. AND THAT FACE.

Doesn't matter. I couldn't keep her. So a friend of mine took her and is giving her a wonderful, loving home, complete with big backyard to run around in. So at least I know she's safe and happy and loved. And I still get to see her from time to time.

Because of Luna though, I didn't do much else. Aside from kicking Jay's ass at minigolf. And getting mildly drunk off of peppermint schnapps shots with Anna while going on Chatroulette. Pretty much sums up the whole weekend.

Oh and there was a Kardashians marathon so... that too. Essentially my couch got lots of lovin'.

And now, I must go get ready. And start packing. Because tomorrow morning I leave for Ottawa. I've never been to Ottawa so this is like a big deal. I'M COMING FOR YOU TRACEY.

But no really, I have a conference for work in Ottawa so I will be away from Wednesday to Saturday and I'm pretty excited since this is my first work trip. I'm all grown up. Everyone shed a tear. Thanks.

See ya next week and hopefully I'll have lots of pretty pictures of Canada's capital to share with everyone.

As for all of you, I hope you had an amazing long weekend! Did you do anything exciting?
