In Love With Love

Guys, sometimes I have fun. I know, shocker. Sometimes this grandma goes out on a week night even though it's like my one cardinal rule to not do that. Because I'm lame. But then The Mowgli's were passing through Winnipeg and my heart beat up my head and said "STOP BEING BORING AND GO SEE THEM" because my heart is owned by music. Anyway, if everyone could just kindly speak in soft, low voices this morning, that would be much appreciated.

This is why I hate breaking my rule but it was worth it. Oh my goodness was it worth it. Also, this cider was heaven. Which is probably why I drank too many of them. And also, does this make us hipsters?

Okay now here are the rest of the picture. If anyone needs me I'm going to be drinking a lot of caffeine and trying to get rid of this headache. UGH.

Say It, Just Say It

Winnipeg's music scene has been so on point lately. From the local talent to venues bringing in some of the best up and comers, there's never been a better time to be a music fan in my city.

Tonight, I get to see one of my current faves in one of my favorite venues. I also get to take Jay and introduce him to the glory that is The Mowgli's!

The best part about the Pyramid is that you get to be so close to the music; you can literally feel the music. I sound like a crazy person right now but I'm just so jittery with excitement. Or maybe it's the 4 cups of coffee I've had since 8:30 this morning. Either way. PUMPED.

I seriously have zero idea how I'm going to make it through today. All I want to do is get a drink in my hand and sing along at the top of my lungs. This is already the longest day of my life. To make my day more bearable, I'm just gonna listen to them on repeat. Join me won't you?

All I Need

Scenario: You're in an airplane over the south pacific and your plane starts to go down. Let's just picture the LOST plane crash. Okay, well I can't cause I've never actually seen LOST but I can imagine what that was like. Okay so anyway, you survive and you wash up on shore. Cool, I'm alive. You look around and notice 5 things have washed up with you (and they're all in perfect working order, regardless of the fact they could be electronic, because this is made up so shut up). WHAT ARE THOSE FIVE THINGS!?

I'll tell you mine....

1. An endless supply of tacos (are you even a little bit surprised?)

2. Enough PSL to last me 10 years. Because duh.

3. The Harry Potter Series cause I might actually just give up and let a shark eat me if I wasn't able to reread them every 2 months.

4. My laptop with unlimited internet access so I can still use Spotify, Pinterest, and Netflix. Mostly Netflix. (Also my laptop is purple how sick is that? It's my fave.)

5. Wine. Because a life without wine is a life not worth living. Obviously.

Okay, so if you've learned anything it's that I'm an alcoholic basic white bitch. JK. But really. Girl needs tacos in her life. Oh my god but I never even considered the possibility that for the tacos I will need an endless supply of Taco Bell hot sauce as well. OMG I DIDN'T THINK THIS THROUGH! Back to the drawing board...

In the meantime, I wanna hear from you. What are your desert island survival kits? Wine, beer, netflix, cellphones...? Possibilities are endless! I can't wait to hear your essentials.

I was approached by Man Crates to come up with my own "must haves". I highly suggest you check out their website if you have a man to buy for in your life. Their selection is awesome, especially if he's picky!

Friday Favorites: E-cards Edition

It has been a long week people. A long mutha flippin week. I need some laughter. And about 20 glasses of wine but that's not the point. The point is I'm gonna share the funniest things I've found on Pinterest as of late. Because e-cards are the shiz. And some other funny pictures too. Okay here we go.

This is all I have for you today. If you would also like some music go follow me on Spotify cause I listen to some really good stuff. Like I have really good taste in music. And also go to Amanda's blog and link up your Friday favorites RIGHT NOW. Okay bye for now. I'm grouchy and need to go inhale more coffee.

Hope you all have a stellar weekend (yes I just said stellar) (no I will not apologize).

I Like Big Books & I Cannot Lie

I've been crazy busy lately. And by that I mean I've been watching a lot of Netflix and reading a butt ton of books. But I just haven't been as inspired to write. I think it's the heat. It makes me sluggish. So today I bring you a survey about books. Because books are my favorite. i like them more than people. Not even a little bit sorry about saying that. If you feel so inclined, you should steal this and then let me know so I can read it when you fill it out!

Oh and also, feel free to become my friend on Goodreads because lord knows I don't have enough book suggestions as it is... ahem. Anyway. Here we go.

Author you've read the most books from.
Stephen King or wait.. when I was younger I read a LOT of R.L. Stine.

Best sequel ever.
I remember being really excited

Currently reading

Slow Apocalypse - John Varley

Drink of choice while reading.

I love curling up with a good book and a steaming mug of Apple Cinnamon Tea. Like life can't get any better than that unless it's raining at the same time outside.

E-reader or physical book.

How can you not say physical book? The smell, the feel the ability to use a cute bookmark. I just love real books. And making notes in margins or highlighting them and seeing the tear stains on the page where Dumbledore dies.

Fictional character you would have probably dated in high school.
Ron Weasley. I had a massive crush on him. Maybe had something to do with Rupert Grint as well. But ya know...

Glad you gave this book a chance.
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. I had to read it in high school so I was not excited to start reading it but it absolutely grabbed me. I now love Margaret Atwood.

Hidden gem book.
A Child Called "It" - Dave Pelzer. I never would have read this had my roommate not brought it home. It's a first person account of one of the worst child abuse cases in California history. The things this poor man had to endure before he even turned 12 broke my heart. And he grew up to be a functioning member of society. It's not an easy read but I tell you that it's worth it. It really opened my eyes.

Important moment in your reading life.
When I picked up Harry Potter for the first time. I'd always loved reading but never before had I connected so much with a book.

Just finished.

Kill You Twice - Chelsea Cain

Kinds of books you won't read.

War novels.

Longest book you've ever read.

Game of Thrones - George R.R. Martin

Major book hangover because of...

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows. I thought my life was over because there was nothing left to come after that.

Number of bookcases you own.

3

One book you have read multiple times.
This Side of Paradise - F. Scott Fitzgerald

Preferred place to read.

On the balcony but the weather has been absolute garbage lately.

Quote from a book you've read that inspires you.
"We accept the love we think we deserve." This is from The Perks of Being a Wallflower. And it has stuck with me for so long. It taught me to never settle and that I deserve more than I let myself believe.

Reading regret.
I don't regret any books I've read. Even if they're crap I finish them.

Series you started and need to finish.

A Song of Ice & Fire - George R.R. Martin

Three of your all-time favourite books.

Harry Potter, The Shining, Wuthering Heights

Unapologetic fangirl for...

J.K. Rowling & Stephen King

Very excited for this release more than all the others.
Red Horse - Alex Adams. I've been waiting MONTHS. I NEED IT! But it was only published as an e-book and I don't have an e-reader so I'm PISSED.

Worst bookish habit.

I start more than one book at a time and have a hard time finishing them. I leave them all over the apartment.

Your latest book purchase.

I bought like 8 books at the used book store near my house. And a week before that I bought 4 from there. So I have a problem I think.

Zzz-snatcher book (the last book that kept you up way late).

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? - Mindy Kaling

Things Boys Don't Understand: Vol. 2

Dry Shampoo:

I don't even know if I can accurately describe the look of mingled confusion and disgust when Jay found out I don't wash my hair more than twice a week. "But... what? Why? How? Ew..."

Actually that's pretty much it. Pretty spot on.

It's okay, I said. I use dry shampoo. Oh okay... no wait.

He had no idea what I was talking about. Good thing this whole conversation started because Anna was in the process of spraying the ish out of her hair with dry shampoo. So we gave him a demonstration of the magical powers those little aerosol cans possess. Whoever invented this stuff is a god because it allows me to be lazy as all hell and avoid washing my hair for disgusting amounts of time.

Jay still doesn't understand the concept. He still doesn't understand why I just don't wash it.

BECAUSE IT TAKES SO LONG OKAY!? Seriously, my hair goes halfway down my back. Do you know how long it takes to wash that shit? TOO LONG.

Long live dry shampoo and any other product that allows me to sleep an extra 30 minutes instead of showering.

O Captain! my Captain!

"In America they really do mythologize people when they die." - Robin Williams

Thank you for giving me a lifetime of laughter. You shaped my childhood and for that I am eternally grateful. You will not be remembered by your death, but in your art and your comedy and your smile. Thank you for lighting up the world.

Ooh Child

Monday morning PSA: If you haven't seen Guardians of the Galaxy, get your head out of your butt and go! I saw it last weekend and then I went again yesterday. I honestly would pay to see it maybe like... 5 more times. It is seriously that good. More than anything though, GROOT.

I AM GROOT. Haven't seen it? You won't understand. But he's maybe the cutest thing in the whole movie. PROOF:

I don't think any of what I'm saying is making sense. Moving on.

One of the best parts of this movie is the soundtrack. Growing up, I was exposed to most of these songs courtesy of my parents who were teenagers in the 70s. Aka one of the greatest music decades in history. So thank you Mom and Dad for having fantastic taste in music.

For your Monday morning ear pleasure, I've included Star Lord's Awesome Mix Vol. 1. You're welcome world.

So other than obsessing over yet another Marvel movie (because I am obsessed with Marvel; Marvel > DC), my weekend consisted mostly of reading and relaxing. I just finished Kill You Twice by Chelsea Cain and now I need to read the rest of her work. If you enjoy a good crime thriller, read her Gretchen Lowell/Archie Sheridan series.

Anyway, I need to cut this off here today. Otherwise I'm going to continue babbling and no one wants that. Hope you have a great week!

How was your weekend? Anything I should know about? I'd love to hear it!

Things Boys Don't Understand: Vol. I

Nails:

We were binge-ing some Netflix crime documentaries when he absentmindedly started playing with my hands. And then decided he had to comment on them. Strike one buddy.

Jay: Why does one nail have sparkles on it?
Me: Because I wanted it to...
Jay: Oh...But why?
Me: Because I like it and it's kind of in but whatever. I just like it.
Jay: Hm. Okay. Well you didn't do a very good job of your nails did you? There's some on the skin around your nails. And you missed a spot on this nail. Were you aware?
Me: OMG what is this the Spanish inquisition? I didn't realize you were a nail expert!

I then proceeded to angrily declare that the next time my nails need to be painted he was doing it for me to prove just how easy it is... UGH. Boys.

I just like having one glittery nail. Get over it. And also, I wasn't even done yet. I obviously hadn't taken a q-tip dipped in acetone to my skin yet so like... YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW MY LIFE JAY.

Strikes 2-10.

Anyway, boys don't understand a lot of things. Like dry shampoo. Look for that in Vol. II.

Have a good weekend. Here's some music!

Accent Vlog Linkup

I'M SO LATE TO THE PARTY AHHHHGHH.
But here it is. Also correction, I live 3 hours from Grand Forks, not the border. I'm only 45 minutes from the border. Eugh I suck.

I have nothing else to add except that I don't have an accent. BYE.

Where My HP Hoes At?

I was all kinds of ready to link up with Allie, Faith and Juliette for today's accent vlog link up but then my wifi decided it hated me and Anna and crapped out so I couldn't upload my video and I'm SO MAD.

So I found this in my drafts and decided since you can never have too much Harry Potter in your life you're gonna have to deal with this. OKAY BYE.
  1. Harry or Ron? Weasley is our King! I love that lil ginger. I have loved him from the start and Rupert Grint needs to come over to Canada so I can woo and marry him.
  2. Dumbledore or Snape?
Dumbledore. I do love Snape because he was a seriously well written character, but I just can't not choose Dumbly. He is basically the grandfather we all wish we had.
  3. House Cup or Quidditch Cup? |Quidditch Cup. DURR. Just call me Ginny Weasley cause I would totally be a famous Quidditch player if I were actually a witch.
  4. Sirius Black or Remus Lupin? This is hard. But I actually think I would choose Remus. Sirius was a little too much for me. I was annoyed by him like 40% of the time. Remus just represents overcoming a struggle and he's so wise.
  5. Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade?
How can you possibly make me choose? This is like Sophie's Choice.
  6. Deathly Hallows or Philosophers Stone?
Deathly Hallows. I mean... eternal life would get a little boring no?
  7. James or Lily?
    Lily effing Evans.
  8. Dragon, Lake, or Maze?
I would take the maze. Dragons are just extra scary fire breathing birds. And while meeting merpeople would be kind of cool, I'm just not a fan of a freezing lake. The maze would be full of exciting adventures.
  9. Fight with Harry and die or fight with Voldemort and live?
Would it make me a bad person to say I would maybe like to see what the evil side is like? I mean.... Harry. Definitely Harry.
  10. Dumbledore’s Army or Order of the Phoenix?
Order of the Phoenix. I would want to be on the front lines. Plus it would give me a little time to cozy up to some of those more attractive order members.. ahem... (Fleur wouldn't stand a chance next to me right?)
  11. Defense against the dark arts or care for magical creatures? CARE OF MAGICAL CREATURES. I want to play with Hippogriffs.
  12. Hedwig or Buckbeak? This one is a little hard because I hate birds. As in I'm terrified of them so I feel like Hedwig is the lesser of two evils. A lion bird is just too much for me to handle.
  13. Privet Drive or Grimmauld Place?
Seriously? Who made up these questions...? GRIMMAULD.
  14. O.W.L or N.E.W.T?
O.W.L only cause that means I have more time at Hogwarts.
  15. Gringotts or Ollivanders?
Ollivanders cause duh wands. I know the wand chooses the wizard but part of me feels like I would maybe have something pretty pliable with unicorn hair in it. Just sayin.
  16. Dobby or Winky?
Dobby. DOBBY. DOBBY WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DIE !?
  17. Weasleys Wizard Wheezes or Zonkos Joke Shop?
This shouldn't even be a question. Who wrote these? Are you stupid? WWW. ALWAYS.
  18. Seeker or Chaser?
Chaser because I'm fierce and an aggressive motha effa.
  19. Quidditch Pitch or The Room of Requirement?
Room of Requirement because it is literally ALL THE THINGS and holds ALL THE THINGS.
  20. Fred and George or Peeves?
God I was so upset they left Peeves out of the movies. He was one of my favorite characters in the books. However, that being said, I am in hard love with the Weasley twins.
  21. Muggle born, Halfblood, or Pureblood?
I am a muggleborn. Is that what the question is asking? I think it is.
  22. Torture curse or killing curse?
Torture curse. I'm not even going to go into detail or people might think I'm a serial killer. But I would use it on Umbridge. Every 5 minutes. For the rest of her life.
  23. Cornelius Fudge or Rufus Scrimgeor?
I don't know cause Fudge was sliiiightly easier to control. But Scrimgeour in the movie was played by a pretty badass actor so maybe I'll choose him.
  24. Auror or Healer?
Auror. I like to think I'm a badass and it's basically like one really badass cop amirite?

Since it's a long weekend I probably won't be around on Monday. I will be at the racetrack watching horses and enjoying my life at Derby Day with my family. Oh and also I got a tattoo last night so maybe I'll show you that next week. Hope you all have a good weekend!

P.S. Friday means songs and songs means The Mowgli's cause I just got tickets to see them when they're in town and I'm beyond excited about it. So enjoy this song. Bye meow.
